Traditional towels can be bulky, heavy, and damaging to wet hair. I love my 100% cotton towel turban. It’s lightweight, reduces drying time, and helps minimize breakage. If you air dry your hair like I do, it’s a game-changer.
Chlorine and other chemicals in tap water can dry out your hair and scalp. Using a shower filter makes a big difference in how my hair and skin feel. I use the Sprite Pure 7 AE7-CM-R, which looks sleek and has multiple spray settings. I’m also exploring vitamin C filters for even more protection.
DIY hair masks made with avocado or banana can be a mess—unless you blend them smooth. A hand blender is perfect for this. It creates a creamy consistency without chunks and is easier to clean than a traditional blender.
One of my favorite Hair tools for long healthy hair, is a heat cap. Warming your deep conditioner helps it absorb better. I use the Thermal Cap from Etsy—it’s filled with flax seeds, no cords or gels, and stays warm for 20–30 minutes. I use it with masks and oils, and it’s honestly so cozy I sometimes wear it just to warm up!
When my hair is damp, I gently brush it using a detangler brush designed for wet hair. The soft bristles help prevent tugging and breakage. Start at the ends and work up slowly.
To finish off braids or create fun styles, I use a Topsy Tail. It adds a polished look with minimal effort. I demo how I use it in my video below (around 12:17).
Using a silk (or satin) pillowcase or silk bonnet/cap will keep your hair feeling silky and frizz free! You should notice less breakage when using a silk pillowcase because the silky material will allow your hair to glide across the pillow, instead of rubbing it and causing knots. Silk also absorbs less moisture than cotton, so it can help prevent your hair from drying out. They’re also a wonderful choice if you’re trying to make a hairstyle last longer. When I sleep with my silk bonnet on, I wake up with almost no frizz or tangles and my hair feels silky and soft. You can also wear a silk bonnet/cap under your wool hats in the winter to prevent hat head. If you suffer from dry hair, you may benefit from using a humidifier. A humidifier will help add moisture back into the air, which will help prevent your hair from drying out. I mainly use my humidifier during the winter months when the atmosphere is dry (especially when I’m using indoor heating). You will also benefit from a humidifier if you have dry skin. I love using mine during the night and waking up with hydrated hair and dewy skin!
If you don’t trim your split ends at home already, you should be! A pair of sharp hair cutting shears will get the job done. I spend 5-10 minutes each night trimming any random split ends I can find. It’s actually a lot of fun! This is an easy way to keep your ends looking healthy between proper trims.
Typical elastic bands can lead to breakage so I recommend using a soft tie like a silk/satin scrunchy to secure your hairstyles. Hair coils are another great option because they won’t leave any indents/kinks in your hair.
Claw clips are another great way to secure your hair in a bun with minimum breakage. For a protective hairstyle, I love to twist my hair on top of my head into a bun, and secure it with a claw clip. You will also have lots of volume when you let your hair out of the bun. Who doesn’t love volume?!
Scalp oiling is essential for growth, but applying oil can get messy. Using a glass dropper lets you apply oil right at the roots with precision. My favorite Amalaki Scalp Oil Serum from Blue Beautifly comes with a dropper—and that’s how I discovered this trick!
These Hair tools for long healthy hair have helped me simplify my haircare routine and get better results with less effort. I hope you find something new to try!
