Hair loss and thinning can be caused by many factors — from stress and hormones to nutritional deficiencies — but nature offers some powerful remedies to support healthier, fuller hair. One of my all-time favorite DIY treatments is onion juice for hair growth.
It may sound intense, but onion juice is rich in sulfur, antioxidants, and antibacterial properties that can help reduce shedding, promote regrowth, and soothe scalp conditions like dandruff. It’s simple, affordable, and surprisingly effective when used consistently.
In this post, I’ll walk you through how to make onion juice, how to use it on your scalp, and a few powerful ingredient combinations to boost its effects.
📌 Patch test first if you have sensitive skin — onion juice is potent!
Use this treatment 2–3 times per week for at least a few months to see visible results. Natural remedies take time… consistency is key!
If you’re ready to take things further, here are some powerful ingredients to mix with onion juice:
Coconut oil deeply moisturizes the scalp and helps calm irritation. Combine with onion juice to reduce flakiness while encouraging growth.
Castor oil is one of the best-known natural hair growth oils. Mixing it with onion juice creates a thick, nourishing treatment.
I love adding a few drops of my favorite organic amla-based scalp serum. It’s full of herbs, oils, and extracts that work synergistically to boost growth and calm the scalp.
Soak fenugreek seeds overnight, then:
Both methods help prevent hair fall and nourish the scalp.
This is one of my favorites. Flaxseed gel gives the onion juice a better consistency, makes it easier to apply, and adds shine + moisture to the hair.
(Here’s how I make flaxseed gel if you missed that post!)
Raw or manuka honey is incredibly soothing and antibacterial. Combine 1 large spoon of honey with a few spoons of onion juice for a softening scalp mask.
Honestly? I often mix a few of these ingredients together into one powerhouse mask — like onion juice + flax gel + castor oil. It’s deeply nourishing, easy to apply, and leaves my scalp feeling refreshed and healthy.
Onion juice might not smell amazing, but it’s one of the most powerful natural remedies I’ve used for hair growth and scalp health. Be consistent, experiment with what works for your scalp, and remember — sometimes the simplest ingredients give the best results.
